MOCHA lang healthy

Since I had switched jobs, I had been buying bread in advance for breakfast as I no longer pass by any place where I can get food before work.

My last breakfast purchase was a pack of six wheat rolls from a local bakeshop. I won't bother with the name of the place as it is as good as any generic shop--being at the middle of a hawker center. (It might be of interest to you though, that they sell pork floss, crouching tiger hidden bacon and other Bread Talk knock offs.)

You can imagine my shock when I bit into it and discovered that it is 3/4 mocha icing inside. Sore throat :(

I think I'm still exhausted (and full) from Sunday. And it's already Tuesday!

i got mail

Emails, letters or messages that make me feel something are not those that are about affection towards me, but those about honest admittance of helplessness from a need, a want, a whim, a situation, a person, a feeling, an act, what have you. Not because I applaud weakness (and I do not see these necessarily as signs of weakness), but because there is grace in disclosure of vulnerability. Maybe it is the idea of their faith that I am someone they can trust that overwhelms me.

There are two of such that stand out for me.

The first, I received eighteen months ago and the other, last night.

the day before today ;)

Whenever my Mom traveled and the opportunity to buy specialty cloth presents itself to her, she takes it.

There was this particular one that I always wanted (but never asked for). I secretly hoped that one day, it would be mine (without me asking for it).

Yesterday, that day happened.

Hope.

This might just kick start my sewing again :)

(I am, by the way liking the polarize app!)

left behind

I never grow my fingernails.

Yesterday while eating one of my favorite chicken wings in Singapore, I noticed that I accidentally left out the thumb nail of my right hand the last time I trimmed. It's no biggie as I cut quite frequently that it is only a little bit more than a millimeter longer than the rest--still, I couldn't wait to get home and take care of it for it was the only nail with a (very thin) white rainbow on top.

Boooooo.

something I do

I have a quirk.

I'm sure I have more than a few. But today, in the middle of the act, I thought to myself "this is odd".
Time : 1115 AM
Location: Kitchen
Attire : Night shirt
Props : Microwave, fork, plate, soap, sponge, bacon carbonara fettuccine

I took out the leftover pasta and set it aside.

I grabbed a plate and a fork and started putting some food into my plate.

I returned the container to the ref.

I opened the microwave, placed the plateful of fettuccine inside, covered it, closed the oven, set the time to 45 seconds and started reheating.

I got the fork I used to transfer the fettuccine into the plate and started washing it to get rid of the cold remains from the transfer.

I took out the food and the newly washed fork so I could eat.
Did you manage to catch my quirk?

49ers

A guy friend tells me that his lower and upper limits for the age of the women--or girls he dates are -10 and + 5 of his age, respectively. He however feels that next year it would be adjusted to -11 and + 4. Hence it is better expressed as:

LL = 29 (his current age) - 10 - X
UL = 29 (his current age) + 4 - X

where X = year(s) past 2009

Okay genius. So you've realized that there is no point in having a formula as the UL and LL are constants as the increments offset one another.

After much ado, 19 and 33.

Another guy friend tells me that his age bracket his LL is perpetually 24, while his UL is open to negotiation based on the female's physical appearance. Very deep guy, if you ask me.

And this brings us to my LL and UL.

There was some argument about my LL, so I guess I am unable to give a number just yet. My UL would be + 7 of my age. Anyone older that that is older than my brother. It would be too weird.

What does this mean? It means that there is just no way, I am going for a 49er.

(Although, bachelor #2 does has a point. Hmmmmm.)

phantom song status as of 2009/07/18 11:45

After brunch, I was still thinking of the phantom song, so I went to the Singtel Ideas site and searched for "friend" in their list of ring back tone.

It was listed as "friends" by "SingTel Group". WTF.

Is this the end of the road? :(
I also realized that I got the lyrics wrong. It seems like the message was quite positive. Somehow, it is now less interesting. In the past, it was fine that the lyrics were trite, but with my recent findings, it is now corny too.
I know that we can all be friends
I know that this will never end
I know that we can all be friends

I got the message that you send
I think I know just what you meant
I know that we can all be friends
We can all be friends

updates on the phantom song

I was telling my friends last night about the phantom song. Joyce said that it was her brother's ring back tone. She then calls her brother saying she would call again and that he shouldn't answer because we just wanted to listen to the song. Of course he thought it was odd. But maybe just went along with it as he knew we were having sake.

Joyce puts the phone down and starts to count for our cues.

Joyce was to call her brother again in speakers.

I was to hold my phone against her phone so Shazam could attempt to tag the song.

Result? Nothing.

Shazam couldn't find the song! :(

run (and fly)

I ran this morning. That's a good thing right? Well, not really.

The lift door was closing when I saw something dangling at shoulder level. It took me a second to realize that it was actually a lizard. It seemed like it was caught by the closing door not more than a few hours ago as it still looked... ummm, for the lack of a better term "fresh". I couldn't make out the head so it was probably pushed deeper into the door slits.

When the doors opened at the ground level, I dashed out never looking back.

(I probably grossed out everyone with the second paragraph, if it is any consolation, a mental picture is stuck in my head. I need a distraction.)

phantom song

I called Singtel a while back and while waiting for the customer service officer to pick up my call, a familiar song played in the background.

I waited a good 16 minutes for my turn to be served, so you can just imagine how frustrating it was to not figure out where I heard it before. For a moment I thought it is part of the Juno soundtrack. It isn't.

The worse part is that I am unable to google it!

If you know the song, let me know.
I got the message that you sent
I think I know that's what you meant
I know that we cannot be friends
We can't be friends

I know that we can't all be friends
I know that this will never end
I know that we can't all be friends
We can't be friends
I am tempted to call 1626 now, just so I could listen to it.

after the love has gone

I'm not sure if this is something that everyone goes through, but for me this has happened too many times--one would think at this point I should already be used to it, but I guess I would never really get used to the pain.

What am I talking about?

You know how you have special clothes? It doesn't necessary have to be something extravagant, it could might as well be a white shirt, a pair of jeans, what have you. Basically, it is an article of clothing that for some reason looks extraordinarily good on you that each time you wear it, when you look yourself in the mirror, you think to yourself blusang itim.

As nothing lasts forever, there would be days wherein you realize that for some pieces, the magic has gone, like Neneng would say "namatay na ang flame".

And every time that happens, it still hurts.

And you comfort yourself with a yema the size of a ping pong ball--or five. Whatever.

spiderman effect

I was reading with my reading glasses on when someone called me two cubicles away. I took my glasses off, set it aside and talked to my colleague.

When I got back to reading I forgot to put my reading glasses back on. The minute I realized it, I immediately put them back on (as I don't want my vision to get worse). I noticed that today, somehow, it was clearer to read without my reading glasses.

I'm confused.

I'm thinking maybe I just need my reading glasses when my eyes are tired.

To wear or not to wear (while reading)?

the diagnosis

The service center representative called and said that it was quite serious. The patient needs (1) new hands, (2) a new crown and (3) a full system overhaul.

The good news it that it would come out in excellent condition and with a year of warranty too. In four weeks time, we shall be reunited.

I guess the only drawback is that hospitalization fees for watches are at least twice as much here as it is in the watch company's service centers in Manila.

(The patient's very feminine sister is also having trouble performing. She just couldn't hold herself together and is now waiting to be treated at a different institution. It seems like there is an epidemic. Must. Be. Brave.)

i love you man

You would think it is another Paul Rudd movie, but it isn't--it is another Jason Segel movie. That probably didn't make much sense.

I personally hate--despise, no, abhor slapstick comedy. This movie didn't have one bit of slapstickness about it. Even the Lou Ferrigno angle was presented very much to my liking.

No mushy stuff too, which is great as there wasn't really great chemistry between Paul Rudd and the leading lady. I like the fact that they didn't push for it to have a scene where they expect the whole cinema to go awwwwww.

I admit that I am prone to being biased as I am smitten--terribly smitten by Jason Segel. If quite possible, he just got cuter :)

If you like the awkward funny conversation kind of movies, see this one.

mamboys

There is only one person who uses this word. And I haven't come across it for a very long time--until recently.

Mamboys.

It is a verb--interacting with boys (or men) in a casual way but not without malicious intent.

i like you

My bestfriend tells me that he said I like you too soon. This naturally led to the question, when is the right time to say it (assuming that it has to be said)?

I think it depends on which page you're on, and even then, it is more about the how rather than the when.

If it is a smiling nod that answered your do-you-like-me question, fear not. Do not over analyze. (Although it has been proven to result in a lasting relationship.)

SMS doesn't count--even if your mobile plan is not G-text. Treat it as a mistext.

If it follows an expression of endearment such as "you're so witty, I like you", don't sweat it. If you are endearing because of some trait or just naturally endearing, I would like you too. No biggie.

Now, if he looks intensely into your eyes (during your second date), and upon getting your full attention, slowly--and clearly states the liking, you're screwed.

hmmm

As I asked a friend to get something for me, I rushed to push money into his account after work.

When I got to the counter, I handed the service personnel the account name, account number, bank, branch of account and account type. After she finished keying in the details she looked at me and said "Kaano ano mo 'to?". I paused, looked at her, blinked then said squinting"Kaibigan po". She then shook her head and said "Magkaibigan lang pala kayo eh".

Tell me, what did she mean?

a child is sick

The diagnosis is that my watch is consuming too much power.

I brought it in for a battery change and routine check up, confident that it was a one-day confinement. I was so sure it was in tip top condition that I didn't wear a watch to lunch today since it was due for release in the early afternoon.

It will be tested further and in three weeks time they would be giving me the hard truth. They did warn me that it might need a transplant.

:(

yakult

I just downed a bottle of Yakult. I don't really drink it for the digestive system benefits, but because I like the taste.

Tah naa nah nana nah.

how to lose friends and alienate people

Don't be fooled by the nostalgic image. I just like swing scenes. Actually, erase that. I like swings. Yup. That's it.

The image is NOT AT ALL a representation of the movie--a light comedy. Not the typical funny film like American Pie, think Brit.

I really loved the movie that I won't mind watching it again. Now. Oh, and I'm beginning to really like Simon Pegg.

The soundtrack is pretty good too--another reason to watch the movie.

I hate reading spoilers, so as usual, I wouldn't write anything more.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Something is telling me that a currently wine drunk someone would start being chatty and insist that (a) I recognized a parallelism, (2) I am laughing too hard over something that is not that funny, (3) I have a funny guy bias and (4) he is not that great.

personalised

I requested a headset from purchasing team so as not to disturb people seated near me when I am doing calls--and that is a significant amount of time.

They came back to me saying that a sales person will meet up with me on Monday morning with different headsets to help me find the headset for me as different people have different needs. True.

I can't help but smile to myself as I don't think that even call center agents, who spend all their time on calls have the option to pick a headset most suited to their needs--or head size.

new hair, new head(band)

I like how my hair was cut. Suddenly, putting my fringe away doesn't look like I am in pambahay mode :)

I love the featherband :) It was handmade by Bonsai, my friend based in Manila.

blogger help

I'm not too happy about blogger. I haven't been able to post photos the last two days. I seriously hope that this gets fixed soon.
