Simfle Flan

I think I have fallen in love with Cindy all over again. She made leche flan! And not only that, she let me eat from the llanera too! Both llaneras! (Llanera = an oval aluminum container used to cook lech flan).

It is sweet to be in lablab. Wahahaha.

withdrawal symptoms

Sure, we had a blast when Nins was here, but upon leaving she left a trail of disasters waiting to happen. I caught a fever and a severe case of hyperacidity, so I was not able to make it to work two days this week. Cindy was food poisoned and is out till now, and it is already Friday! Nins, you better get back here and mitigate the situation, I don't think we could handle any more withdrawal symptoms. We need you back!

10 minute haircut

I got this from the same email as the image in my previous post.

I'm not sure how fast haircuts are done in this place (or if magic is involved), but I'm sure that if brought to Singapore, it would make the 10-minute-haircut places some stiff competition.

This is....

Somebody sent me this photo and I thought it would be a good idea to post it as it made my day. I'm easy.

Who needs www.hungrygowhere.com?

Hahaha.

conference call

Looking at this photo makes me smile, not only because Nina is shown with the Saturday Girls, but also because it was taken while we were talking to Bill on the line. It was quintessential of the time when I didn't mind working for twelve hours everyday. (Us girls used to do "jobs" for Bill, now we talk to him to keep in touch) I would just like to add that during the call, the painting in the background mysteriously fell off the wall.

both

I can't see you
But I know what's in your head
You think this is amusing
I swear you are smiling!

I think I got something in my throat
My hands are feeling funny, no--my heart.
Maybe them both.

We are so close
But we are not even touching
Come here, hold me
Tell me you love me.

I think I got something in my throat
My hands are feeling funny, no--my heart.
Maybe them both.

It has been years
But it is like we've just met
I know my plans are messed up
Promise me you won't give up

I think I got something in my throat
My hands are feeling funny, no--my heart.
Maybe them both.

polka your gift out

I am half grimaced as I am posting this entry as I am the last person you would find interested in handicraft. Anyways, here is my poor attempt to personalize gift wrapping for a family member. I sew the whole polka wrap like a giant tissue holder using the remains from my POLKA YOUR TOP OUT top. The ribbon is extra from a spandex tube top I made to wear inside, you guessed it, a red dress. I also cut a small piece of cloth to use as a card, good thing we have some markers at home.

master splinter

The past few days, I had been having muesli bars for breakfast so you could imagine my delight when I laid the pancit bihon with kikiam container in front of me this morning. I quickly took it out of the plastic bag and grabbed the chopsticks inside. As I slid the wrapper half haphazardly off the chopsticks, I managed to get myself a five millimeter splinter. Great.

I did what any other person with the correct priorities would do. I finished the pancit first, then I addressed my injury.

my version of the blue dress

I saw a photo of Kristine wearing a blue dress and I decided I wanted to sew a dress just like it. I haven't seen it in person so clearly, I have not touched, measured or looked at the inside to figure out how it was made.

The thing is, I couldn't wait much longer. The past few days had been a sewing spree for me. So I put matters into my own hands; I just went ahead and sew my way into a cotton dress.

As expected, the one I made ended up looking completely different.

I wanted to post Kristine's dress alongside my version of it. Maybe I'll go and ask her first.

Case by Trace

In case you didn't get what the thing in the image is, I am telling you, it is a laptop case. And the only thing it protects your laptop from is dust. I was restless after dinnertime yesterday that I decided to make something out of the remains of my barbecue dress and my X-back dress.

I was super excited yesterday because I had just learned how to make buttonholes.

You can see that my case has a "belt"--with a button!

(My case is in need of serious ironing though)

barbecue anyone?

I finally finished a new project today. I worked on it for two weeknights and the early afternoon of my Saturday. I must say though that I can't believe I made it.

I am posting a photo, but as I lack the imagination and ability to take decent pictures to showcase the items, I am betting on YOUR imagination to fill in the gap.

I'm now ready to go on a weekend barbecue, I just need a barbecue pit, friends to attend the barbecue, food to be barbecued, potato salad, and a Saturday when all these would come together.

(I am hoping that Grace would help me out on the photo part and the regulars would help with the having a barbecue part)

bookworm

When prompted for his favorite books, HE typed this whole chunk. I see why we get along. And how he is meant for me.

Wow... I swear my list could go on and on!!! I have spent countless hours immersing myself in the stories and characters of amazing authors that I have come across over the years. I can get very enthusiastic about this particular topic, so I actually have to limit myself before I get carried away. I'll write down the books or series that come to mind first. If I really spend time on this, then I'd be really UNPRODUCTIVE. By the way, this list is definitely not in any order. I don't believe in ranking favorite books, as it would be unfair to the heroes who have defended my secrets, dreams and considerable imagination. These are just some of the titles or series that have nursed me in my loneliness and made me both laugh and cry in an empty room: A Song of Ice and Fire, Shannara, Wheel of Time, Dragonlance, Belgariad, Mallorean, Vampire Chronicles, Harry Potter, CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE, Hardy Boys, Archie, Jughead, Garfield, Far Side... and on and on and on and on. :)

Jambu

I recently found out that the local name for macopa is jambu. It sounds funny when you think about it.

My colleague was surprised when I told her that in the Philippines, jambu is not sold in groceries (and I'm guessing not in wet markets as well). When she asked why, I told her that your neighbors usually gave you some if their tree bears fruit. I think she suddenly imagined me living in a farm rather than a village. Jambu by the way is called water apple too.

Coincidently I saw a certain girl yesterday and nudged my friend to tell him that she is cute mainly because she has a pretty upturned nose, not unlike a jambu. He said he couldn't quite fathom why I would associate fruits with noses. I don't know about him, but when I told my colleague about the-girl-with-a-jambu-looking-nose, she said "Oh yeah, the girls in Archie Comics have the same cute nose shape". I rest my case.

sucker for an afternoon

It has been a very long time since I wrote seriously about love--romantic love. And I used to write sonnets, poems, essays, what have you. Not specifically about someone, but generally about what I would refer to now as romantic crap.

I don't know exactly when it happened, but suddenly it got old.

I don't mean growing out of romantic love because love could actually last for a lifetime--if you are lucky (or Vic Sotto); but inspiration to write. It is like some relationships, you wake up one day and realize that there is nothing. It's over. I was suddenly more interested to write about useless information, ahhh!

Why am I writing all these?

I was chatting with two friends this afternoon and we talked about one of the girls' old love. And when I say old love, I mean someone in her past that quite possibly, she would never get over. I would not go into details about what happened but I ended up saying refuse to be with someone you are not madly in love with, be with the one who makes you deliriously happy. The other girl pointed out that delirious was THE word.

Did I mention that the other girl is a rock star (and I am a bubble burster)?

I think this is enough romantic crap to last me till 2009.

Jerold

I saw an ex-colleague this afternoon. We immediately engaged in conversation, I am leaving out the boring part.

J: Buntis ka pala (So, you are pregnant.)
T: Actually, hindi. Busog lang. (Actually, I'm just very full.)
J: Hindi nga? Ilang months ka na? (No, really? How many months is the baby?)
T: Taon na ito, on and off kase. (Oh, for years. On an off.)
J: Seryoso? Sinong asawa mo? (Seriously, so who's your husband?)
T: Wala pa akong asawa. (I'm not yet married.)
J: Totoo nga? (For real?)

Confirmed!

Cola Soda can remove bloodstains! It's confirmed by Mythbusters. Although, I seriously don't see much use for this info, unless of course, you're a butcher who lives in place where there is no laundry soap and bleach. And even then, I'm pretty sure you would have bigger things to think about.

twisted tWASTED

I was busy all night mixing drinks and listening to Roch's playlist, when I heard a song from my college freshman year. I caught myself doing the smile-and-shrug-combo; I couldn't help it. I looked around for Roch and pointed my finger at her (relax, not the middle one!) when she caught my eye, this was when she said "Soooo TWASTED".

HAPPY BIRTHDAY RHEA

See! I didn't forget, I am thoughtful that way ;) This is based on Singapore time, by the way.

Camille, our buttercup

If you have a cutesy story, a feel good moment, a charming encounter or anything heart warming to share, tell Camille, she is sure to flash that dimpled smile and say awwwww.

finding myself in need of a strong man

I got to the office quite early today and after going through my email I headed to the pantry to get some water. The container popped into the dispenser was empty. I looked around and found that although there were more than eight (I stopped counting after that) giant water containers waiting to be popped, there was not one strong man around. Bummer.

As I don't drink coffee, I went ahead and opened the ref and saw rows of Milk, Ice Lemon Tea, and Coke Light. I grabbed the latter, went back to my desk and thought that maybe I should head down and take a couple of Marlboros with my drink. It has been quite a while since I've had the breakfast of champions.

I'm errr just not ummmm... not, you know....

As there is now an even louder buzz about this certain self help book focused on relationships when producers decided to make a movie out of it, I am tempted to ask some of my single girl friends to dinner and some--or a lot of wine where I would bring up a line from the book/movie, "A man would rather be trampled by elephants that are on fire than tell you he's just not that into you". My heart is fluttering with excitement. It is going to be a massacre!

While I love books, I'm not really into this genre. I did see a review with some funny excerpts and now, I'm tempted to watch the movie. I'm sure my guy friend who likes to watch chick flicks would ask me and the girls to watch as he tries to pose as the "nice guy who was forced to watch a girlie movie".

school girl

A, my niece is now a school girl and I heard from my sister that she is a bit of a trouble maker (but is an absolute cutie), as we must always focus on the brighter side of things I would not go into detail as to what kind of trouble she gets herself into but rest assured, it doesn't involve drugs, robbery, arson, perjury or tax evasion.
