I had dinner with a good (guy) friend today and I was so amused to find out that he knew so much about eyeliners. He said he used to put a lot when he was in high school. He expressed frustration with smudges and said he learnt tips by watching his mom get ready before work.
No. You are wrong. He is neither into goth nor emo. And yes, he is straight.

Did he have any recommendations for a good one? I can't seem to find one that doesn't smudge or run.

I am new to the whole eyeliner business and I was very frustrated with the first few ones that I bought. It is not only tricky to get the line right, but finding the true "smudge proof" liner is nearly impossible!
I have good news though :)
There are two liners that NEVER smudge on me :)
You might want to give these a try.
(1) Constance Carroll Liquid Eyeliner
(2) Bobbi Brown Long Wear Eyeliner--only used on the top lid
Are you thirty? I'm convincing myself you said that and yet I killed time looking to see if I read that. Boredom can really be a leach on the mind sometimes.
I'm turning thirty in a few weeks... hmmmm, I'd think I would have written that somewhere especially as my friends are starting to ask me what I plan to do.

i like the one from the face shop. i used pencil eyeliner before, but it leaves some shadows after some time. so i switched to liquid eyeliner. its a bit challenging to use though.
