I love movies. I spent countless of Friday and Saturday nights in the movie theatre. I enjoy dvd marathons. You get the idea.
However, I hardly watch Filipino films. I did see a lot of the 80's movies, but the number dwindled as time progressed. It did not help that I moved to Singapore, as now I not only do not watch the movies, I also have no idea what movies are out there. I think the last one I saw was Feung Sui. And I can't remember what it was prior to that.
How I would fare if I was to participate in a Charades-Pinoy Henyo-Pictionaryesque marathon wherein the category is 2005 - 2008 movies, Foreign and Filipino?
The answer is, not bad. Not bad at all.
I did have a moment though.
It was during Charades.
Filipino Movie.
Tagalog title.
Four words.
First word was the tagalog for four. Apat.
Somebody says "dapat".
Person in front nods. Points to his tall man.
"Apat dapat apat dapat".
Person in front shakes his head, points to his first and fourth finger.
"Apat apat dapat dapat".
He shakes his head again.
I say "Apat Dapat Para Sapat".
Everybody laughs.
What the hell. I tried.

killer instinct
I finished watching True Blood, the first season today.
WARNING: I'm about to write spoilers.
A friend told me she liked Sookie to end up with Sam, the dog. Dog, in Harry Potter context Animagus. Only because he is cuter than the vampire.
Another friend tells me, she likes Sookie to end up with the gwapo vampire, Bill.
I said I liked Rene, the fiance of the redhead waitress. A man.
(There was also a horndog whom nobody admitted liking :p )
I found out today that between the dog (errrr...werewolf?), vampire and (human) killer, I liked the killer--who didn't even have that much of a role in the first place!
Great. So much for leaving the leading men alone.

blessed
I am overly grateful that there are people who have genuine concern for me and go far beyond what is necessary to keep me from anything that--or anyone who might cause me anything but comfort.

UP
It was not at all what I expected. I am not saying I didn't like it, because I very much did. I came in expecting an Ice Age, a Monster's Inc. or at the very least a Toy Story, but it turned out to be a My Girl. Maybe not really a My Girl. Do I recommend catching the movie? Most definitely. Especially if you could catch the 3D show.
Russel said something that I liked.
'Sometimes, it's the boring stuff I remember the most'.I'm one of those people. I appreciate boring.

so many questions
Lately, I had been asked all sorts of questions.
What is your nationality? How old are you? Are you lesbian? Why don't you look Filipino? Who don't you sound Filipino? (Not sure if it is because I'm tone deaf) Are you married? Do you have a boyfriend? Are you dating anyone? (Rhea, I know you want to know :-p) Where do you get your hair cut? Where did you buy your shoes? Where did you buy your dress? Are you more attracted to fair or dark men? Have you dated a blonde? Are you willing to date a blonde? How about a redhead? Have you dated a caucasian? A Singaporean? ABC? Where can I eat Filipino food? Are you PR yet? Do you watch The Contender? Do you think Little Britain is funny? Do you think person A is gay? How about person B? Do you think person C is attractive? Is person D your type? Do you think person E likes person C? You think she likes person D? Should I pair up persons C and A? Are you going out tonight? Why did you dress up so nicely? What are you looking for in a man? Is it true that you like smart and funny men? Will you consider dating any of the single guys here? How much can you drink before you get high? (If she didn't appear harmless, this question would make me not want to drink with her) When are you going back to Manila? How many times had you been bridesmaid? Do you know that you should not be bridesmaid more than three times because you will end up an old maid? How come I can't find 'patricia gomez' in Facebook? Can you add me in Facebook? Can you understand Mandarin? Do you like to go bowling?
I am stopping here, but I'm sure there are so much more that I am unable to remember right now.
I think most questions are pretty standard or at least almost normal. Except maybe, the third one. I mean, seriously. Who asks that? Especially on the first meeting. In front of a crowd. It was almost like playing Truth or Dare.
I say, dare.

left behind
This is really embarassing. And funny. I'm sharing.
After taking a bath, I took a cotton bud (Q-tip is a brand!) and started doing my left ear. I then switched ends so I could work on my right ear.
Something happened. I started to feel weird. When I pulled out the cotton bud, I realised that the bud was left in my ear.
Of course I panicked. But I was able to contain myself. I knew that if I started poking, I might end up pushing it further in.
Tweezer. That was the first tool that I thought of utilizing. After four attempts, I decided that it was not going to work.
Hair pin. I held the two pins apart, put in my ear then slowly release in an attempt to catch a piece of cotton in between the pins. It didn't happen. I tried thrice. No luck.
Then I cried a bit. Maybe for two minutes.
I thought that if I had a crochet hook, it could do the trick. I started rummaging through my sewing stuff. I might have something there.
I didn't.
At this point, I admit thinking of sleeping on it and going to the doctor tomorrow morning. I also made a mental note of my morning schedule, I didn't have any meeting set up before ten thirty. I should be fine.
I was prepared to do just that, sleep on it and go to the doctor tomorrow. Only, I couldn't leave it alone.
I went to the other room and looked around.
I found a letter opener, paper clips...and a stapler. Nothing I could use. Except, maybe, staples.
I took out a staple, straightened it, curved one side into a hook using a nipper and then, said a short prayer.
With a hook at hand I closed my eyes and started at it. It sounds funny, but I actually hear when the hook hits the cotton. It gives the expression play it by ear a whole new meaning to me. The idea was to (1) poke, (2) hook and (3) pull out. The poke part was easy enough. The hook part drove the cotton further in. Bummer.
I couldn't imagine my luck when finally, I was able to pull out the staple hook--with the cotton trailing behind.
My right ear hurts like crazy now. I think it is more due to embarassment than anything else.
I feel like an idiot. But an awfully lucky, awfully blessed, awfully resourceful, awfully self aware idiot. Not too bad in my book.
