obey

I almost posted a "wrong color wednesday" entry because I was surprised to find a color from my favorite make up brand that was horrible--at least, on me. After applying it, I not only looked like someone overly spray tanned pale with fever. Some oxymoron going on there, but yeah, that was how I looked.

I decided that maybe I could still wear it if I put something on top. But knowing myself, I'd probably put it aside. I am not too fond of 'multicoating'. I tend to go for either super sheer intending a natural look, or very high on pigmentation lip products when I feel like channeling my inner clown ;)

Multi lip products at one time? Close to never. Off topic, but I hate gloss too.

---

Wednesday was a sad day.

---

The following day, I had time to put on eye make up and decided to give the lipstick a chance.

This time I didn't apply it as thick. I thought it looked okay. Not great, but not horrible, just okay.

Might as well give it a go, right?

What do you know, three different people told me that they liked my make up.

The person I'm with even said that it looked very different (pretty) the day before (ugly) and that I looked, errrr peachy ;)

burst of colour

I was trying on a "look" this afternoon, so I had brought out a couple of pigments. A pigment is a...well, a highly pigmented loose powder that can be on the face and body.

I was done with the eyes and ready to do the rest of my face when I thought that I should close the pigment jars before I knock one over.

And i was doing just that, when my finger slipped.

And there was a loud gasp--accompanied by yellow smoke.

Then, everything...shimmered.

----

I spent a good amount of time "fluffy brushing" everything.

My pillows, the jars, other brushes, my clothes, my hands (oh my hands!), my arms and legs even! Golden.

----

Half the jar, gone :(

Not that I'd ever finish one jar. But there is comfort knowing that I can turn myself gold entirely, if I wanted to. Honestly, I think quarter if a jar will do. Still!

----

I would never forget this day.

The day everything I was touching, turned gold.

penny for your thoughts

My very thoughtful, kind and choco-sprinkle-donut-craver friend got me a significant number of pigments and eye pencils last year. While I was all too excited to get my hands on them, I haven't really gotten to trying them out.

With pigments, I find that I am unable to use them during weekdays because I am always in a rush. I've only got time to dab some cream eyeshadow and line--if I do anything at all.

On weekends, I really only have Saturdays to put on a full face as Sundays are quite hectic for me too.

Given the number of Saturdays lapse and a couple of eye make up palettes that I have, you don't have to be a mathematician to make out that well, I have not used 80% of the colours.

------

I thought I'd try out one of the pigments today. I opted for Penny. The colour of money :-p

(I do know that this is not what the expression means. Thank you.)

-------

I loved it!

The color was so nice. It showed well on my skin--and stayed true to the colour of the pigment in the jar even after twelve hours!

The powder did not move at all, considering that I didn't put any proper primer. There was only sunblock underneath.

-------

This is where make up bloggers would post a swatch and talk more about the look. Obviously, that isn't happening here.

-------

To cut a long story short, I'd like to thank Mom-to-be for the pigments :-)

I have a feeling that I'd be using a (different) pigment every Saturday for a while....

Wonder Woman

I was a little excited about these. A little. Maybe around a tenth of my excitement around the Venomous Villains. Who am I kidding? Maybe a fifth.

These were more nice to haves for me.

I would have liked it more if Wonder Woman is actually in the products rather that just her logo. I don't even remember her logo from childhood!

The boxes are cute. The product packaging looks plastic-y. Very. It reminded me of play make up for kids.As much as I am griping now though, obviously I still got a few items.

I don't know why, as honestly, I buy these stuff for the packaging. I am not very specific about colors anyways, so it doesn't bother me if it is a once-in-a-lifetime-event and that I could NEVER buy the exact same shade of something.

The JUMBO lip glass made it at the very last minute. It is really jumbo in size! The wand and tip are twice--at least in diameter as the original ones! I thought it was worth getting it for that alone.

Told you, P A C K A G I N G.I was pleasantly surprised about a specific lipstick. An experiment lead to a ground breaking discovery. Maybe it is genetics, but somehow fuschia looks okay on me.

Line drawn--coral lips.

isn't it a wonder (woman)?

Fine. I realise that the photo is useless as it doesn't really show off the color, which is the topic of my entry. Maybe I'd post a better one when I have my camera with me.

Coral color reminds me of my mom. Growing up I'd see her put this lip colour in the car with one hand and the other holding the wheel.

I always thought it was a funny color, whether for clothes, food, wall papers, what have you. It seems like a shade that is not... natural to anything. Except perhaps, cough syrup.

When this lip shade became popular again I wasn't sure how it would pick up. I don't really pick make up based on trend alone so I was so sure I won't get one. And I can continue referring to it as my mom's color.

And perhaps because of this, I just assumed that it is not flattering on me.

-----------------------------------------

With the Wonder Woman make up collection coming up, it seemed like an appropriate time to get comic--y.

I picked up the most unlikely shade and tried it on, hoping that it would repel me...then, I'd walk away.

Fail.

Spitfire backfired.

I NEVER thought I'd say these next two sentences.

I LOVE THIS SHADE.

IT IS VERY FLATTERING.

prince and the pauper

I had finally gotten a darker make up shade.

Only, it's too dark!

There was limited stock where I went, and I was not about to go to another branch. Besides, it looked almost right when I tried the tester on my neck. Yes. My neck. One of the make up gurus in youtube said that the right shade is the one that matches your neck, not face. Interesting, yeah?

More interesting is that a friend told me today, another make up guru in youtube said that it is the color of your cleavage that you should match. Now, even if I knew that while shopping for make up, I doubt (highly doubt, in fact) that I'd swatch there.

I now sport a look that is similar to an actress tanned to look like a needy person--homeless. As opposed to an actress portraying a needy person portraying a non-needy person.

mismatch

I have spent too much time under the sun that my face powder no longer matches my face. While I don't think it is a must to wear make up everywhere I go (READ: yoga class, the beach), I feel that it is a must when going to work. Like shoes. Again, unnecessary for yoga class and the beach.

For this reason, I cringe whenever I look at the my compact mirror. As the powder is a shade lighter that my current skin tone, I look ashy :(

It is just wonderful that I was already in the store on Friday, Saturday and again on Sunday and it slipped my mind all three mall trips!

As much as it bothers me, laziness took over today that I did not make any attempt to go to the store.

We'll see how I feel about going tomorrow.

who is the fairest of them all?

A certain trendy make up brand releases limited products every few weeks. While I like this brand, I never really purposely go to the store because I just have to have a certain limited edition item.

Until yesterday.

In this case admittedly, it was more the packaging than the product that drew me. Needless to say, it is not like they produce horrible products--contrary to that in fact.

To my disappointment, the mirror didn't talk. LOL. Maybe it just didn't want to answer my question.I also got a couple of lipsticks, one called heartless and the other sinister.I hope the brand doesn't come up with more villain endorsed products because then, I'd be in trouble.

till there was pink

I did all the paint mixing when I was a kid, so I understand unions between primary colors bring about secondary colors and when secondary colors are combined, tertiary colors result.

Blue and Red become Purple--Indigo?

Red and Yellow become Orange.

Blue and Yellow become Green.

This would be too long a blog entry if I explain the color wheel.

Anyway, what is this entry really about?

I had been trying to figure out in my head how a bronze base, layered with blue powder ends up pink on my lids.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I decided to break it down to primary colors.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Bronze = brown + yellow + pink

brown = red + orange

red = primary color

orange = red + yellow

yellow = primary color

pink = red + blue + white

blue = primary color

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

When I add up all the primary colors taking the "quantity" into consideration, it was suddenly crystal clear.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

red

+ red + yellow

+ red + blue (+ A LOT OF white)

+ blue

-----------------------------------

pink

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

It all sums up to pink.

two go

As I was fixing up to get ready for lunch, I discovered that my top two favorite lipsticks had finally reached their ends. Literally.

I am unsure how often this happens in a woman's lifetime, but I would bet it isn't a lot--if at all.

As shallow as it seems, this made my day.

(Note to RN: Dude, we made it!)
