priorities

This word sort of reminds me of my bestfriend's gg story. But I am not going to write about that today.

I am going to write about batteries.

A while back, the battery of the cable box died on me, and for some weeks, I would stand to turn on, turn off, flip channels and adjust the volume. I'm not sure how long it took for me to buy batteries but I am quite sure that it was more than a couple of weeks.

Last Thursday, the batteries for my tv's remote control died. And I now stand to put the plug in and pull it out of the socket. Surprise, surprise.

I and only guess how long I would live like this.

so strong

I think I have underestimated my own strength (or lack of control).

As I was pulling out a styro cup from the dispenser, I ended up poking a hole into the cup with my thumb. Twice. (I had to wait till lunch time to drink some water!)

I didn't know that with great strength comes great thirst.

do you believe in love?

I like it when I have the whole gym to myself, it means that I could (1) keep the windows open, (2) set the a/c in swing mode (3) keep the tv off and (4) sing along my mp3s as loud as I want.

Yesterday I was able to do all four, however, on the 27th minute, someone came in to workout and heard me do my take on the chorus of Huey Lewis and the News' Do You Believe in Love.

Bummer.

I am happy to say though that I was able to enjoy benefits 1, 2 and 3 throughout my workout. That's not too bad.

much ado about STEP UP 2

I had stressed Cindy so much about missing Step Up 2, only to realize that it is not that great. There were moments, not really Paris, je t'aime moments but more like moments when I said to myself "hey this person can dance, cool".

Even with mixed popcorn and crispy chicken from the Cathay Cinema food stall (and you won't believe how much of a sucker I am for these movie munchies), I think I would still feel that it is not even good enough to watch again when it hits HBO.

Cinds, I take everything back :)

Penelope

I'm still smiling about the movie Penelope. It is the type of movie that needs no analysis. Upon reading the plot, you would know exactly how it would end, I however enjoyed it tremendously. Maybe because James McAvoy was the leading man, and Christina Ricci was convincing. It was a bonus that Reese Witherspoon was there too.

The script was funny too, not because it was particularly witty, but because it would be the sort of things that you would hear ordinarily, and it is surprising that the same is being used in an extraordinary situation.

For days that you feel like a pig, watch this movie. It would give you a new perspective.

(I would actually also recommend it for days that you feel like being wooed)

super glue me

I wanted to rest a bit before I look into some slides so I decided to go through my clothes and take out those that I wanted to discard but the task proved to be very tedious, so I decided to look into my shoes instead. I found a brown flat peep toe sling back that I got last year but almost never wore. Upon inspection, I found that the sole was starting to fall off the shoe. Geez! Those were not exactly the cheapest. I decided to mitigate the situation with super glue. I know that rugby glue should should be used for shoes, but where the hell would I get rugby glue? Besides, I remember what that stuff did to the street children at McDonald's Taft! (omg! That is some story! I'll write another entry for it)

So I played elf, as in the elves and the shoemaker and brought the shoes back to life. I was almost clapping my hands when I realized that the super glue tube is stuck to my right pointing finger.

I spent twenty minutes under the tap before I managed to get the tube off and another ten trying to remove a generous layer without ripping my skin off.

Good news: I didn't rip my skin

Bad news: I didn't get the glue out

Although I can now do all the things I could with my pointing finger before the incident, I am very much concerned with how I could get into the office, as the finger print identification system scans and verifies (quite conveniently!) that of the employee's right pointing finger.

Luge

Balqui and Odell went to Sentosa to do the whole luge and skyride thing. When they were on their way to checkout their photo, they were surprised to see this posting. NGES NGU are in the photo on the left!

breaking point

I once saw a cooking show wherein the chef was giving out tips on how to cut vegetables. Interesting one is the tip he had on asparagus cutting. He says you should NEVER use a knife or kitchen scissors, but instead, you should hold the asparagus on both ends and bend, at the perfect point, optimal position, it would break--a clean break, by itself naturally.

Hmmmm. How convenient.

When do you break asparagus though? I just had some for lunch and the bunch was uncut, bundled by streaky bacon. Lunch was good.

When a Man Falls in the Forest

There is this scene in the movie wherein Timothy Hutton flirts with his wife, Sharon Stone while grocery shopping. He reenacts a scene from the time when they had just met. And for a brief moment there was again magic between the estranged couple. Right about until he asks if she remembers how he used to walk behind her so he could see all the guys checking her out, and he'd feel so good knowing that she is with him. She responds by saying that sure, she did remember but then one day, the guys stopped looking, and he stopped looking.

ending the week right

I was having a very hectic week when I passed by a certain shoe store. To relieve the stress, I decided to try some pairs on. I ended up bringing some home, one of which is the one in the image.

Oh, and it was such a bonus that this particular one was on 40% off.

Not that I am justifying the purchase(s?) but I recently discarded a pair of casual sandals with a three-inch wedge espadrilles. (I could almost feel someone rolling her eyes saying walang point)

I am now dressed for church and I'm wearing this pair to mass. With a knit dress, admittedly, I feel like I am a member of the Spice Girls. Maybe I should ask for divine intervention that I would never trip, slip, tumble or fall flat on my face wearing ridiculously high wedges--or heels.

of breaking records and smart men

I was on the lift on my way home from work when a man and a woman got in. As there were only three of us, I couldn't help but hear their conversation.

W: Japan broke a world record
M: Is it? For which sport?
W: Swimming. The world record was nineteen plus, the new record is only eighteen plus seconds.
M: Oh, did the swimmer get a gold?

In a perfect world, I would have looked at the man and said WHAT DO YOU THINK GENIUS?

thank you from the button of my heart

You can just imagine how happy I was when a friend handed be a small zip lock bag filled with loose buttons. I can now practice more on making buttonholes!

how can i tell him?

At a children's party I recently attended, I was not only accused of being pregnant (not that it is relevant to the topic at hand), I also received a card. I am seriously concerned about the card. Honestly, I want to talk to the person and give him some sound advice. I wonder if he would consider an sms from an anonymous sender. Any ideas?

she writes

My best friend writes about love. She is pondering if it is worth loving someone who couldn't be yours. She wants to know if she should let go, even if he is almost everything she has always wanted. She needs to know if she'd ever be with someone who is equally with her. And by that, she means completely.

She wants to know.

She needs to know.

She knows.

Lizard

I am terrified of lizards. TERRIFIED.

A few months back, as I tapped my access card on to reader at the the back entrance of our place, I nearly jumped out of my skin as there was a lizard that suddenly swept across the keypad.

I was so glad that it never happened again.

Today though, I saw it's tail dangling across the display screen when I was just about to tap my card.

When I got home, our maid said that the lizard actually lived behind the access card reader. Great. I think now, I would have to use the main entrance each time.

888

You won't believe this but I still remember ads in ABS CBN about the Year of the Dragon 1988, especially around 08/08/88. I must have seen it while watching Chikachikachicks (revamp of Chicks to Chicks) with our maid.

Twenty years later, I have figured out that Freddie Webb and Nova Villa are not really husband and wife, and that people watch the show to see hot girls in sexy clothes. I thought it was the humour and the "Sweetheart mag-shower tayo" jabs of Nova Villa that made the show a hit.

I also thought that the title was slang for gossip, I realized otherwise around the same time that I realized the real reason behind the hit series. (I wonder why it took me so long to get it, given the previous series title. Hmmmmm.)

It's 08/08/08 and Carmi Martin looks exactly like she did back then.

It's 08/08/08 the official kick off of the Olympics in Beijing.

It's 08/08/08 and a friend, according to her shout out in some social network site is all set.

It's 08/08/08 and I find myself writing an entry, purely to distract myself from what I had been thinking about for weeks.

It's 08/08/08.

fall of my foodoo faith

I had a big bowl of thick soup and a slice of carrot cake for lunch. These are two of my favorite things, but somehow it didn't really warm me up the way I expected the combination to. While I am full from the meal, I'm not the least bit happier.

Maybe I'm preoccupied.

This is not good. As I forget about my worries when faced with comfort food around 99% of the time.

There was a generous flow of Sauvignon Blanc in the office during the weekly updates, and this too didn't improve my mood. Something is really up.

break off

I was trying on a couple of headbands when I accidentally dropped the one with a flower. It was as if it was falling in slow motion but I just watched it fall.

As it hit the floor, one petal fell off and when I looked up, the salesperson was on to me. He told me that since I broke it, I had to pay for it.

I felt bad paying for something I was not sure I really liked. My luck didn't change after I headed to the counter. I found out that the headband costs $45. Geez.

I am now wearing the headband. It is quite nice, I must say, but I honestly think that it is $20-nice, not quite $45-nice, if you get what I mean.

august is here

It's August. Already.

I failed to count the number of times that I thought to myself that you just breeze through the years in Singapore. And that I hate to wake up at 32 to realize that I could have done more.

I find that I am really just waiting things out.

And it is not too easy.

I can't plan. And I'm a planner.

There is this unrelenting silence and calm which only means I am in the eye of the storm.

This is me, waiting.

Any day now. Any day now. Any day now.
