little college girls

The oddest thing is happening. For the past few months, I had been receiving invites from young pretty college girls (READ: freshmen) aged sixteen to eighteen. I know for a fact that I don't know them from anywhere, nor are they friends of my friends. The only connection that we would have is that we come from the same university. I graduated in 2000, needless to say, it is unlikely that we saw each other there.

My guy friend says I should entertain them, or at the very least, if I'm not interested, I should refer them to him. I think I'd just be a party pooper and encourage them to hang out with people their own age.

back in the day (for a day)

I had the longest happy hour in a loooong time last Wednesday, it lasted from 530 till 1100 --alfrecso. After more drinks than I could count, I find that I was buzzed but very much okay. Pacing.

My hair was not doing well though, I had sweat through my scalp and they were "hanging out in groups". Clumps.

As I was walking in my 4-inch-heels to the taxi stand, to my convenience, I saw an ex-boyfriend whom I haven't seen since we broke up.

Wednesday reminded me of after office hours when I was on my first job (overdressed but underpaid), when 5thirsty was as real as blind dates, slips due to piano playing, straight men dressing like me (Aa, this means you!), opaque stockings and playing mind games with ninjas.

FAUNed of him

I have a list of favorite actors (based on acting ability of course!) and lately, I think that it would only be a matter of time until James McAvoy would make it to that list. The shirt-off scene in Wanted didn't hurt too. Only, I saw the HBO trailer for Chronicles of Narnia and realized that he played Mr. Tumnus and now, I can't shake the image of the faun by the lamp post off my head. And I'm not exactly what you call an animal lover.

I need to see Atonement again to remind me that he is actually, a man.

POST for me

Cindy and I had grown very fond of a particular blog. I will not paste the URL, quote the author or divulge the reason behind the fondness (it is not sarongpartygirl, mind you!!!) but believe me when I say that every entry is a pleasure to read.

fit feet

Lately the regulars (see photo--although, I don't seem to recognize the guy in the extreme left of the photo) had been overly enthusiastic about taking pictures of my feet, my feet had always looked this way, so I am wondering, why the sudden interest? I am not posting a photo because I am sure it wouldn't do much for me. Or you. Or anyone who sees them feet. So, if you ever get the chance to look at my feet directly, don't. Look away.

ready HEADSET go!

Surprise, surprise. I got this headband from someone who swears that I like to pose as someone who wears headbands. Curious.

turning cinderella

Yesterday, as I took out a pair of flat white sandals to wear with a dress when for no reason at all, I suddenly thought of how hassling it would be if one of the skinny straps break. I knew I was being over imaginative, so I slipped them on and headed out. As expected, the straps didn't break.

Today after getting dressed for church I saw the same pair of sandals that I wore the night before as I haven't put it back in its box. I looked at my outfit and thought to myself that the sandals matched it (I contemplated some too, because there were more that a few pairs of footwear that went well with what I was wearing). I slipped the sandals on. I was about to head out when I again thought of the straps breaking. This is so weird because I was just telling Cindy the night before that I love the shop where I got the sandals from because it is nearly impossible to wear their shoes out, the only reason you'd throw them out is that, well, they are old. I eventually headed out wearing the white sandals.

I walked to the bus stop.

Sandals are fine.

I get into the bus.

No sign of breaking strap.

I get off the bus.

Sandals intact.

I cross the street.

Straps remain sturdy.

I get on the other side of the street.

Sandals perform as expected.

I walk towards the church.

I trip.

Strap breaks.

Sandals ruined.

I continue on to church limping to keep myself from leaving one sandal behind.

One word: Intuition.

perfect match

The reversible blue dress has found a good home, although I seriously doubt that the reverse side would see the light of day, I am very happy about how things worked out. The dress looks a so much better on Siew Leng that it did on me. My thanks to Joyce for "directing" the shoot ;)

with HIM, among friends (and a bunny)

This is the back of the denim dress, my favorite creation that, as documented in one of my entries in April, nearly gave me a fainting spell (although I think that if you go back to that post, it may seem as though I was saying it almost killed me).

green is in

I bought a military inspired dress today and when pulled it out of the bag to cut off the tag and put in the hamper, I saw that it was made in Vietnam. How about that?

another (thurs)day, another couple of margaritas

Joyce was right, it is impossible to get just ONE round of drinks.

Today is the official end of the week that started with Friday the 13th.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

to the left, to the left

I was looking into some cases when I noticed something in my peripheral view, when I turned to get a look, I noticed that the air force is doing some exercise. It was quite interesting so I watched for a bit, not more that a few minutes later, two of the planes went to the opposite direction and took a vertical path, then at a certain point, shifting into again, opposite directions slowly moving down, their paths crossing again some 50 meters later to form a giant heart shape.

I'm not into cheesy things but, I must admit, it was kinda cool.

Wonder Years and an appreciation of a haircut past

I remember an episode of The Wonder Years about haircuts. Whenever Kevin (Fred Savage) gets a haircut, he ends up looking like a dork. After a few weeks, there is this ONE DAY, wherein his hair falls perfectly, it is just about the same time that he is again, in need of a haircut.

As in my previous entry about how cool Garbage's vocalist was in the nineties suggests, I was never particularly fond of my current haircut. I have in fact scheduled an appointment with my stylist today. Oddly enough, when I looked into the mirror at the toilet right after brushing my teeth post lunchtime, I realized that my hair looked nice today. This time, it might not be too much of a long shot if I refer to my hair as crowning glory.

deja vu.

I'm not interested

I am so used to saying "I am not interested" whenever I receive a call from anywhere offering products. Even before the agent has a chance to complete her first sentence, I would say "I'm not interested, thank you".

This morning I received another one of those calls, or so I thought.

Agent: Hi Patricia Gomez
Tracy: Hello
Agent: I am from XXXXXXXX Bank
Tracy: Thanks for calling but I'm not interested
Agent: Actually, I called to inform you that we are waiving the annual fee of your credit card
Tracy: Ohhhh, okay, great
Agent: Can I confirm your home address, so I could sent a letter of confirmation
Tracy: Sure

I guess the lesson learnt here is that, you really don't know that you are not interested until you know what is being offered.

I mean, this time, I was actually genuinely, without a doubt, interested.

14, 28, same same

This just has to be my favorite no-brainer movie. I first saw it when I was fourteen. I had the biggest crush on Mike Myers. I also saved up to buy a CD of the soundtrack (Of course I was very pissed when Sixpence None the Richer decided to remake there she goes).

When I was sixteen, my good friend got me a VHS copy.

The first Sunday errrr Monday of my 28th year, HBO shows it at 1AM.

I think I missed out on some of the more mature jokes when I was 14, and again when I was 16, but at 28, I'm pretty sure, nothing escaped me. I especially liked the "nice" is used to describe lady friends bit.

I must say though, that I still feel giddy watching it, just the way I did at 14--and 16.

And I just can't contain, the feeling that remains :)

Friday the 13th

How did I spend the first day of my new year?

The day started with a reminder from Cindy that it is in fact, Friday the 13th. I won't bore myself writing about the uneventful day. I'd just go right into saying that the night ended with drunken serious conversations with our backs on slabs of wood set as steps.

This Friday won't go down in history unnoticed.

FULL DAY

I think it is most appropriate to write a "looking back" entry about my life as a 27 year old, but somehow, I feel that it is not the time to enumerate new experiences, places visited, friends, etc.

So instead I'd write a short prayer of thanks. No, I am not religious but I am blessed and thankful to the guiding hand.

Thank you for a wonderful day and all the extras you threw in there for me.

My good friends and I not only had good food for lunch, we also had a nice time chatting, sharing stories and laughing uncontrollably.

I got a call that I was hoping to get, but never really expected.

Throughout the day, I had been receiving text messages, emails and calls from friends and family, which reminded me how lucky I am to be thought of.

My colleagues took me out for a round of drinks to celebrate with me.

Siew Leng gave me a basic sewing book (my first!), it is nice to be supported even if sewing is still only my hobby.

On my way home, I was able to spot a frog a meter away from me, so I was able to avoid it completely.

I had dinner with my closest family, my brother and sister in law. I always look forward to going home, knowing I would get to spend more time with them.

While digging into the chili and black pepper crabs, one of my favorite songs was played in the radio, it was the perfect background to my sumptuous meal.

And on top of everything, I got to start and end the day talking to HIM.

carbo loading

As I am trying to cut down on time spent getting to the office (and maybe save a few bucks too), I decided to buy a loaf of bread to keep on my desk. I can eat it for breakfast on weekdays. The idea seemed perfect, until the end of day 1, wherein I realized that I have managed to eat half the loaf within the day.

I guess this is saying that it is lousy idea because (1) I ended up eating more, (2) spending more and (3) saving time only on alternate days as a loaf would last me two days.

So much to fine tunning my habits, but you can't blame a BIRTHDAY girl for trying.

Prince Caspian

I think that Prince Caspian is my favorite among the Chronicles of Narnia, so I was really excited to see the movie.

The actor who played Prince Caspian was very pogi (a Filipino word that means pretty boy), so I forgave him for his lack of acting ability. I must hand it to him though, he is one notch a better actor than Wentworth Miller. Come to think of it, that doesn't really say much about him.

I have decided a long time ago to save myself from disappointment, so whenever I see movies made out of books that I like, I come to the cinema with zero expectations. Now, if the movie turns out good, then that would be a bonus on top of my large popcorn combo.

Starting 28 right :)

It is not even my birthday yet, but extra nice things had been happening already. It is as if it is my lucky day.

I woke up late for work, but the bus came the minute I stepped into the stop, the train was waiting for me to board when I got into the platform and there was more than a couple of sliced multi grain bread waiting for me at work.

Did I mention that I found a gold coin too?

When I got home, I opened the ref to find a box from a familiar place, as I opened the lid, I found that it had Macadamia Carrot Cake inside.

During dinner, my brother said that tomorrow he is getting chilli and black pepper crabs for dinner.

Oh, and Allain sent me a nice picture of me and HIM :)

Good stuff. Good stuff.

It definitely looks like 28 is loads of fun.

nakakhaki

I spent two afternoons making this dress--the longest time I had worked on a piece.

RTW <-- ready to white

Five people in two different occasions have asked me if I made this skirt. I am not sure whether it is because it looks crudely done, or they think I can sew. I hope it is the latter :)

Cool

Sometimes you forget trivial things about yourself and it makes you smile when you suddenly remember.

One thing about me is that when I am at a cool place, my nose feels cooler than the rest of my face. I can't figure out why the parts of my face do not have the same temperature. I should write to Myth Busters or maybe Dr. Oz about this condition.

While watching Indiana Jones with HIM, he turns to face me and touches my nose. He leans over to say "I knew it! You're nose is cold".

Then, the remembering happened.

I suddenly remembered that I'm cool--or rather, when subjected to specific conditions, my nose is cooler than the rest of me.

stuck

A friend gave me this bumper sticker as pasalubong (token from a trip given to you to let you know that you were thought of). I'm stuck as I honestly don't know if the "I" in text refers to him or myself. I assume it isn't the latter, as he was the one who went away.

my male model

I just knew from the beginning that HE would be my favorite model. Here is a photo of the first and only pajamas that I made.

stupid son-of-a-%#$&# strap

Something is happening and somehow the universe has not let me into the big joke. First the skirt up, and now another squirmy awkward happenstance.

Earlier today, as I leaned over, the strap of my dress broke--a first for me.

Oh, and can I just add that it is a new dress too?

Great right?

Thank God for housekeeping, with the sewing kit that they had provided, I was able to remedy the situation.

Spot the awful stitches on the pretty dress.

Happy Birthday to my favorite sister :)

Rob, I miss you both!

INXS

Contrary to my recent post, as of the weekend, I no longer have four sneakers/trainers. I refuse to divulge the exact number, but...it is more than four. Booooo!

balloons(kirt)

Since HE is coming to visit me for four days, I decided to wear clothes that I made during his stay. I want to show him what I had been busy with the last few months.

Unsure of which ones to wear, I decided to go through the full list of clothes that I have made with my friend, O.

I was surprised when O somehow got the point across that my very own balloon skirts for some reason, don't work.

As people tend to hear only what they want to hear, I was not able to control myself.

I blurted out "WTF! Balloon skirt? BALLOON SKIRT? My BALLOON SKIRT?!?! No one calls it that! Well, maybe in the 80's, when people referred to their stylists as beauticians".

O, judging from the laugh I had, I must say that once, we had a conversation wherein you were actually more funny than me. har har.

skirt up

As I was crossing the street from our place to the bus stop, a bus swerved, causing my dress to...well, to do a skirt up! Of all the days, today I brought stuff with me, and with my hands engaged, I was not able to do the whole Marilyn Monroe thing. You won't believe how exposed--and cold I felt. Luckily, a cotton camisole came with the dress, so the people around didn't really see anything--but still, the horror! The horror! THE horror!!!

After a restless afternoon and a sleepless night, I know that it is time I get a holga.

disguise

Who is to guess that this was what I was wearing to Clarke Quay on a Saturday night.

Cut from the same cloth

From the "remains" of my navy dress, I made this. It is perhaps the dress that I sew that I wear the most. I think I have worn it more than four times. It is super comfortable and provides camouflage during my fat days. Hahaha. This is what I call, fitting the person (as opposed to fitting into the the dress). This is my sewing philosophy ;)

Navy Dress

As I am meeting a gentleman from the Navy on Tuesday next week, a man significant to my good friend, I was suddenly reminded of the navy dress. It was the first ever item that I made, which I wore. I think to this day, it remains one of my favorites and I am quite confident that for sentimental reasons, I would never, ever give (or throw) this away.
